Design and Access Statement
A Design and Access Statement is a short report that, when required, accompanies a planning application. The aim of the statement is to state how the proposed work is a suitable response to the site and its setting, and how it can be adequately accessed by prospective users. It usually accompanies major development works, regardless of whether they are full or outline.
This statement must consider the applicant’s approach to access and that the relevant local planning policies have also been considered. Although there is a lot to consider when forming a Design and Access statement its not often a long document, but all key areas must be addressed.
Access is not just for pedestrians, but also for vehicles and cyclists and anyone that can potentially fit into the surrounding access network.
